You look in the mirror and what is starring back at you? A face full of acne. How do you get rid of acne spots? There just doesn’t seem to be any relief from them. It seems that no sooner do you get rid of them, they come back again.
Unfortunately that is the nature of acne, so there is one thing you should understand; There is no cure for acne. If there was, we all be walking around with clear faces. Wouldn’t that be nice. However, there is treatment for the symptoms. And used properly, acne treatment will keep your blemishes at a dull roar.
There is a whole host of treatments available to get rid of acne spots. You only have to walk into your local drug store, or turn on your TV to discover that. Its like walking into a candy store. There are so many to choose from, it is hard to make a decision. However, I can make it easier for you to make a choice.
Any over-the-counter acne medication will have one of two active ingredients. Some brands contain the ingredient “Benzoyl Peroxide”. This provides an anti-inflammatory and an antibacterial to reduce the appearance of acne. Other brands will contain “Salicylic Acid” which is a drying agent, drawing out the fluids of the acne and shrinking the pimples.
If you are inclined to think that one product should do the trick, then both working together would be the ultimate, don’t. While some people may recommend this practice, it is not a great idea. Alone the active ingredients are inert. They are designed to work with the chemistry of the skin. Together the mix could cause a chemical reaction that could easily burn the skin, or cause the acne to get worse. Best to play it safe and stick with one or another. Or alternate them, one kind in the morning, and the other in the evening. But don’t use them together.
It doesn’t matter which one you choose. Either Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid will give basically the same result. The only choice you will have is to select the brand, the strength, or the type of application. Just read the label, look for the active ingredient and make your choice from there. The mode of application is really not that important, and the strength depends on how desperate you are to get the acne spots cleared up.
Just remember with any acne treatment, practice patience. Acne takes time to clear up, even with help. It could take any from a couple of days, to a couple of weeks, up to even a month or so for very severe acne. Give it time, it will respond to the treatment.
